Babri Demolition Day: Mathura tense on Right-Wing call for ritual at Shahi Idgah
cancel

Mathura/UP: The Mathura city of Uttar Pradesh remained under tension on Sunday as 3,000 security Personnel were deployed here a day before the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.

A Hindu right-wing group had proclaimed to perform a ritual on December 6 at the Shahi Idgah, which, they claimed, is the original birthplace of Krishna. Though officials and organisations have informed that the programme was cancelled, police said they were prepared for all situations, The Indian Express reported.

Senior Police Superintendent Gaurav Grover said that the police is carrying out flag marches and drills to ensure they are prepared for all situations. They spoke with the outfit that called for the ritual and confirmed that no protest would be staged.

However, they have beefed up the security in the area for any eventuality. Official sources told TIE that local police, Rapid Action Force and the Provincial Armed Constabulary had been deployed in heavy numbers, nearly thrice the regular placement.

Roads leading to the Shahi Idgah mosque have been heavily lined up with security, and the movement of people will be restricted on Monday. Police issued travel advisories and prohibited travel on seven routes. They installed several traffic diversions near Deeng Gate and temple areas.

Those who issued the call to perform purification, or 'jalabhishek' of the mosque were Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha, the Srikrishna Janmabhumi Nirman Nyas, the Narayani Sena, the Srikrishna Mukti Dal and other outfits. The police have been talking with religious leaders for the past week to keep peace in the area.
