Kochi: In an attempt to the murder case, a Lakshadweep court has sentenced NCP Lok Sabha MP Mohammed Faizal from Lakshadweep to ten years of imprisonment, IANS reported.

The court has sent three others, along with Faizal, who is the second accused in the case, to jail in the same case. Two out of the three others were his brothers.

The case in question is about a brawl that broke out here during the 2009 Lok Sabha election campaign. Then a Congress Congress leader Mohammed Salleh who was also the son-in-law of late former Lakshadweep Lok Sabha member and Congress veteran PM Sayeed was brutally assaulted by a set of people. Saleh was severely injured and was airlifted to a hospital in Kochi.

Sayeed had represented the Island for ten terms, and he passed away in 2005.

In the case, those alleged to have a part includes Faizal, his brothers and some others.

Since Faizal is a serving Lok Sabha member and the punishment exceeds two years, he will have to challenge the verdict and get relief from Kerala High Court to keep his political career from derailing, reports IANS.
