New Delhi: The Delhi Police is reported to have recorded the statement of the Twitter handler upon whose tweet AltNews co-founder Mohammed Zubair was arrested.

According to The Indian Express, the Twitter handle @balajikijaiin and the name 'Hanuman Bhakt', who handled the account is a 36-year-old real estate businessman who lives in Delhi's Dwarka and hails from Ajmer in Rajasthan.

He is said to have given a statement before the police that Zubair's tweets caused hurting his religious feelings. Twitter helped the police to trace him, who remained anonymous.

The Delhi police are said to have traced the person behind the Twitter handle after the advocate who represented Zubair in court during his remand hearing blamed the police for acting on an anonymous Twitter account which was made to create mischief.

With twitter sharing the IP address of the person, the police sent him a notice to present the man before them to record his statement. The police are of the claim that the man, who said that his religious sentiments were hurt after he saw the tweet, has had no affiliation to any political party.

The Delhi police's Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit, which handles cybercrime registered a case against Zubair after the Twitter handle urged the Delhi police to take action against Zubair, tagging them to his 2018 Twitter post in June this year.

Zubair's lawyer Vrinda Grover, during the hearing, argued against the police's haste in taking action against Zubair over an anonymous tweeter account, which was created to churn out mischief and target her client and that the user had to be investigated by the police.

On July 20, Zubair was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court, which also disbanded the Special Investigation Team formed by UP to probe six separate cases against him, and underlined that there was no justification to keep him in continued custody.
