Amit Shah campaigns in Gandhinagar to rescue his constituency: report

Gandhinagar: Home Minister Amit Shah is busy working out the kinks for the BJP in Gujarat where elections are due.

As Aam Aadmi Party is posing threat to his party continuing in power, Amit Shah has taken the reins of the polls.

The Indian Express reported that Shah spent four days straight in fine-tuning his party, especially in his Lok Sabha constituency—Gandhinagar.

The huge task for him includes finalising the candidate list amid requirements of pacifying rebels vying for tickets.

He was working out on nominations of at least two candidates, including incumbent Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, as per the report.

In constituencies where the BJP axed three sitting candidates Shah reportedly held late-night meetings.

However, most of his time in the state was taken by Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency with seven seats for Assembly.

Here the BJP has five MLAs and the congress two; however, given the rising threat of AAP, Shah is spearheading battle for holding the seats.

Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency had not been represented by MPs based in Gujarat when Shah came in 2019: those represented the place include former deputy prime minister L K Advani who was a five-term MP for Gandhinagar, and in 1996 late PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee won the seat, according to the report.

Shah, who was an MLA for Sarkhej at the time, was the election manager of Advani pulling off greater margin each time he won.

As part of his time in Gandhinagar, Shah travelled with candidate for Gandhinagar's Sanand Assembly constituency with Kanubhai Patel to witness him filing the nomination.

Alongside, he was on campaign roadshow with CM Bhupendra Patel in his Ghatlodia constituency where he was going to file nomination.

However spending days here Shah has not yet covered entire seven Assembly seats that come under Gandhinagar Lokh Sabha constituency.

The party sources reportedly said Shah would spend remainder of campaign to cover all of his constituency.
