AAP in Gujarat: Kejriwal promises Rs 40 per day for cows

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal promised the people of Gujarat that Rs 40 per day will be provided for the upkeep of cows if the party comes to power. In an attempt to pose against the ruling BJP party in the state, he also promised a shelter home for non-milching cattle in every district.

Speaking at a press conference in Rajkot, he said the Delhi government is already implementing this scheme. "The Delhi government gives Rs 20 and another Rs 20 is given by the municipal corporation."

He assured that AAP will take all the necessary steps for the benefit of the cows in Gujarat and that every district will have a panjrapole (shelter homes for cattle). The announcement comes at a time when shelter homeowners have been protesting against the Gujarat government's alleged failure to provide necessary assistance.

The AAP chief added that if the party is voted into power, he and his colleagues will work for all people without discrimination. He also claimed that BJP and Congress will have to join hands in Gujarat to defeat AAP. He alleged that Congress has been given the task to "eat into AAP's votes".

Kejriwal claimed that an IB report found that if the Gujarat Assembly elections are held today, AAP will win by a thin margin. This has pushed BJP and Congress together. "BJP is freaked out and is conducting secret meetings with Congress. Both are using the same language to abuse the AAP. BJP is also trying to strengthen the Congress to divide the anti-BJP vote."

Speaking about AAP's understanding of Congress' future in Gujarat, he said it will not win over 10 seats in the 182-member Assembly. He predicted that winning Congress leaders will then join BJP which means it is useless to vote for the Congress. "All those who are upset with the BJP should vote for the AAP. I appeal to the people to push hard to break AAP's Delhi and Punjab record."

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Arvind Kejriwal are set to address the public as part of the campaign for the Assembly polls to be held later this year. They are on a two-day Gujarat visit which includes rallies.
