Mumbai: At the 18th edition of the iconic Tata Mumbai Marathon, an 80-year-old woman surprised the crowd by running in a saree. She was one of the many senior citizens who participated in the sports event.

The woman's name is Bharti and her granddaughter shared the video of her running the marathon on Instagram. "So inspired by the sheer will and grit of my 80-year-old Nani who ran the TATA Marathon this Sunday," read the caption. Bharti was seen comfortably running wearing a saree and a pair of sneakers. She was also carrying the tricolour.

The elderly woman ran 4.2 km in 51 minutes and netizens were amazed.

In the video, Bharti said she has been training for the marathon every day and this is her third time participating in the event. When asked about why she carried the flag, she said she is proud of her national identity and wanted people to know about it. She also asked the young generation to move and run to keep their good health.

The Tata Mumbai Marathon is held on the third Sunday of January every year and the 2023 edition is coming back after a break of two years due to the pandemic.
