New Delhi: Police arrested eight individuals over "Modi Hatao, Desh Bachao" posters in different areas of Ahmedabad, reports Asian News International.

The arrests come a day after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched its nationwide poster campaign against Narendra Modi.

Ahmedabad police said that a case had been registered and an investigation into the matter is going on.

AAP launched the "Modi Hatao, Desh Bachao" campaign in 11 languages across the country. These include English, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Telugu, Bengali, Oriya, Kannada, Malayalam and Marathi.

It was last week thousands of posters against Modi appeared on walls in Delhi. It resulted in a severe police crackdown, the registration of 49 FIRs and the arrest of six people. Two of the arrested men owned a printing press, NDTV reported.

However, police maintained that the arrests were made for defacing public property and also, the posters did not carry the name of the printing press where they were printed, as per the law.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal responded to the arrests by saying that even the British never arrested people for putting up posters against them during the Independence struggle. British never made FIRs or action on such instances, Kejriwal told PTI. He referred to Bhagat Singh, saying that the freedom fighter had pasted a lot of posters, but the British never lodged an FIR against him over that.
